I came across this photo on the interweb , it's of Edward Woodward who played the role of Callan in the TV series who seems to be firing a Britains cannon , the figures are 54mm (?) , I've not seen it before but I assume it's from the TV series ?
I believe it is from the original "A Magnum For Schneider" play on TV. The series came as a result of its popularity. This is the scene when Callan searches his office (or home) and notices the toys on display.
Great find Tony! I loved Edward Woodward in "The Equalizer," an excellent tv program here in the states! A nice shot of the Hearald/Deetail ACW limber, one of my all-time favorite toys!
Ah, Edward Woodward who was responsible for elevating playing with toy soldiers to something aspirational in the early 70s. For a short period us nerdy kids at school were suddenly cool!
I don't recognise the programme but the cannon! I had one of those, absolutely super toy: spring-loaded brass cartridge into which a plastic shell was placed; the round loaded into the breech; the breech block closed and locked; and, then press the lever to fire. Unfortunately I grew up and my mum let other people's kids play with it and they smashed it, just like my Corgi 007 DB5 with ejector seat. Grrrrrrr...

ReplyDeleteI didn't recognise the the horses and limber thanks
DeleteIt reminds me of the moment that I elevated my game of toy soldiers from the floor to the table :-)
ReplyDeleteGaming on the floor is beyond my back and knees nowadays

ReplyDeleteYes wargaming was brieifly 'cool'
DeleteI guess I'll have to don a pair of dress gloves the next time I take to the table in order to get the full experience.
ReplyDeleteI'm think I miht use white cotton ones to avoid contaminating the figures.

ReplyDelete'Callan' was a 70's (?) TV series in the Uk about a Spy/Hitman who's hobby war toy soldiers and wargaming - not James Bond at all .
DeleteI know, I used to watch Callan, the 007 reference was just a tangent on the topic of beloved childhood toys being destroyed by others.
ReplyDeleteSadly little if anything remains of my childhood toys ,
