End Game.

 

Not everything went all the way of Treboria !

However the Roccaian infantry took heavy casualties and one of their units failed it's moral and fled !

Swiftly followed by the other one ! , Oh dear ! . The Treborian Infantry has held the objective on the ridge .

And the battle comes to an end , the Ferraro Roccain force hold the far left objective with their artillery and the remnants of the Lancers. They just about hold the center one with the very depleated Soldatii , and the Treborians hold the right one , so technically the Roccaians won but have taking a right pasteing and so it is a very Pyrrhic victory . Great fun, these rules are one of my favorite sets and always give a good game  . WellI'd better clear the table ready for 'A' calling round for a game tonight.

The Battle unfolds .

 

The battle is in motion and by a lucky draw of the cards the Treborian Infantry arrive and head for the objective on the ridge. The Artillery deploys and open fire on the enemy.

First blood, the Roccain infantry come under fire .

On the other flank - a combination of the Artillery and the Lancers see off the the Treborian Dragoons, but with heavy losses to the Lancers.

In the centre the Soldatii de Furtuna come under heavy and acurrate Artillery fire and they break and flee (so much for this vaunted unit !)

The Ferraro Roccain Infantry deploy and advance agains the enemy.

On the other side of the board the Treborian General tries to halt and reorganise  the Dragoons.

The Treborians seize the objective but at a cost ! . A further report coming soon .....

 

A return to my beloved 40's

 

I decided that I hadn't played with my 40mm Imaginations collection for ages. So I set up the table, there are 3 objectives marked on the photo the winner holds the most at the end of the game . The forces are from Treboria (entering the table on the right and Ferraro Rocher on the left - who although united against the might of the Sublime Porte are at a constant state of bickering over borders. The rules of course are 'A Gentlemans War' 

The Rochain force marches onto the table of Mars . In the distaance a unit of irregular Lancers have been dispatched to control the far left objective .

The Treborian force - 2 units of the 'Alicia' Dragoons and a battery of Horse Artillery , the infantry will arrive on the first Joker card.

The Rochain Commander Rupert of Henza . Both sides drew Cameo Personality cards, the Rochaians were inflicted with the apperance of the General's mistress , who interfiers with the command structure.

The Rochain drew Spy - he will be deployed near the Treborian HQ .

The Rochain General dispatches the Hariboan Lancers up the road to hold the objective marked by a small bush.

The Ace up the Ferraro Rochain sleeve , a unit of 'Soldatii Futuna' armed with the deadly (?) 'Grenade ale mortii'. Theses are some semi flats I cast up from an old metal mould .

The Horse Artillery deploy under the gaze of an odd looking chap that evidently lives in the roadside barn !? . Up date on the game soon ........

A bit of nostalgia

 

Been awash with nostagia this week and been sorting out some of the photos from my blog from the distant past (well 15 years ago) and found copies of these from my 40mm Imaginations project . This is one of my favorite photos , from H.G. Wells and the El-Gin Marbles showing some of the participants .

Another photo of the Dramatis Personae , stood in front of a revolutionary Steam Carriage .

This is a bit of an oddity from the vaults of the Felpersham University Photographic Collection (FUPC)*, I have been able to identify some of the people in the photo . from the left - Mr Oscar Wilde , Mr Armitage Shanks (?) , A Lady who is Not Mrs Wells and finally H.G.Wells . Hopefull some of these will be returning to the tabletop soon.

The Walkers on holiday.

 

Whilst on holiday Mr Walker takes Mrs Walker to visit Missolonghi Bay *, the location where Lord Bygone came ashore to help the Helenyka Republic in their struggle to free themselves from the Sublime Porte .

They finally find the exact place - Mr Walker is ecstatic and very impressed ! - Mrs Walker seems less so - in fact she complains the lack of a cafe or ice cream van !

Preparing the next batch of Imagination .

 

Whilst doing a Spring clean (of which more later) I found these 40mm semi flat cavalry I once got from eBay .

So they all got a Dettol bath to remove their paint .

Cleaning off the gunge using an old toothbrush and disposable gloves .

First batch cleaned and based ready for an undercoat.

Next batch, I was short one figure so I cast one up , and mysteriously he is slightly bigger , Think it might be a homemade mould hence the size difference ? , hopefully not to noticable when they are painted and on the tabletop. I have no idea which armies they will be joining yet .

The Helenyk Heavy Cavalry crash into the disordered enemy column and cut it to pieces riding down the fleeing troops ( a rare successful cavalry charge which doesn't happen often under these rules)

Another Sublime Porte column drives the Helenyk Irregulars from the ridge ! 

The third Sublime Porte column is driven back by rifle fire from the Bavarian Volunteers , things are looking a bit confused for the Sublime Porte in the centre .

The Helenyk forces had held out for the alloted number of turns, so a win for them . Their reinforcements arriving promptly was the key to their success as I think the Sublime Porte infantry assaults would have won against the motely opponents . Another enjoyable game with plenty of tension .

Much needed reinforcements arrive for the Republic in the shape of two units of  Heavy Cavalry.

The Sublime Porte has formed it's Infantry into Attack Columns and abvance boldly towards the bridge.

The Republic Artillery comes under fire and suffers heavy casualties .

The Sublime Porte columns advance ., while their Artillery shells the ridge.

The Helenyke Republic counter attack and the Heroine Tringe Smajli leads her troops against the enemy column.

The combat is drawn and both sides retire disordered .

Total chaos at the bridge as the Cavalry try to advance and form up ready to charge. Part three to follow soon  ........

Easter Weekend Battle - Storming the Steni Gefyra !

 

Decided to set up a game as the weather is typical Bank Holiday mix ! . A scratch force of the Helenyka Republic have been sent to hold the Simantike Perasma from an invading force of the Sublime Porte . I will of course be using 'A Gentleman's War' rules and my Balkans war Imagination 40mm collection .

The Sublime Porte column marches onto the tabletop using the main road and their Commanding Officer sets up his command post at the Old Inn ..

They have brought along their Heavy Artillery which opens fire with effect !

Prince Ludwigs Bavarian Volunteers (semi flats) sent by Bavaria to aid the Helenyka Republic .

Members of the secret 'Blacl Hand' revolutionary group have responded to the Republics call for aid ! . The only Regular Helvenyk unit is a Artillery Field Gun and crew , they are hoping for reinforcements before the enemy can attack in force .

Sublime Porte Border troops try to sneak up on the defenders - I will report back when the action starts ......
