I've been to ........

...Hospital ! , hence my absence from these pages . Had a bad attack of Gall stones last Thursday and the following day my urine was the colour of a fine brandy , so my wife told me to ring the doctors - me thinking 'they will put me off till next week' and they said "you had better come in straight away for an examination" . The nurse took one look at my urine sample and said "you better go to Lancaster and get some blood tests - I'll phone ahead!" - so off to A&E at Lancaster - they were busy (they always are) so my wife left me there and would return when I knew what was happening . They kept me in - over the next three days I had a CT scan and an MRI scan, antibiotic drips, various and numerous blood tests and was released on Monday afternoon with take home antibiotics . Will need my Bile duct flushing out (outpatient job - down the throat thing - think 'Alien' ) (but without Sigourney Weaver) and probably my Gall Bladder removing at some point . Still feeling a bit ropey but it's nice to be out in the fresh air again . As always the NHS came up trumps - totally professional as always , cheerful at all times  the staff looked after everyone very well indeed - a 'National Treasure' that MUST be protected against the interference of slimy self serving  politicians !

  1. Hi TONY,
Glad your OK - sounds serious though- perhaps an operation down the track? I've had Kidney Stones- several times- surgery isn't fun though Lithotripsy is easier. Stay well my Friend. Cheers. KEV.

  2. Having just gone through a health episode that has kept me off the interwebs, I can relate (in real time)--although my issue was of quite a different nature. And I am dealing with the US healthcare "system" (fight to keep your NHS!). Such episodes really do serve as reminders of what matters and what we sometimes take for granted.

    1. Yes we are VERY lucky to have such a system - one hears such horror stories from other countries with social health care .

  4. I'm sorry to hear about the health issues but happy that you have survived and were well treated.

I suppose that covering the bed in toy soldiers probably wouldn't go over well these days.

    1. Think it would have been frowned on , feeling a lot better - but a bit jaded with all the antibiotics

  5. If your gall stone problem was the same as mine, you have my sympathy. I’ve never known pain like it. I did don’t have any of the treatment you had, just had the gall bladder whipped out after diagnosis.

    1. Think they thought it was liver problem to start with as I only get it about every 6 months , I'm told that without complecations it will be a key-hole day surgery job . Perhaps next year ?

  9. Sorry about the health issues; but glad to hear you are doing better and on the road to recovery. Wish we had as efficient health care system as you do over the pond.

Just called to set up my annual check up and the doctor cannot see me until April 2022!

  10. I'm pleased for you that things are better.
If you went to Lancaster Hospital you can't be so far away from me as I'm just over the border in Yorkshire but my postcode is LA.

    all the best,

  11. No man-made system will ever be perfect, but I would always choose a national health service structure to any likely alternatives. Best wishes to you.

  13. Sorry to hear you've been tom dick... I'm a bit behind reading blogs, but I hope you are fully recovered. I was reading an account of gallstones being dealt with in Elizabethan times..... I'm so grateful we live in the 21st century!
