A Recent Acquisition.

Just arrived in the post is my latest buy for my World War One Pilots collection , I know I've made a big thing recently about not buying new stuff but these figures  rarely come up on EBay especially this one - a 'Manoil' figure made in America  in the 1940's, known as Dime store toys , they can go for about £20 , but nobody seemed interested in this chap so I got him for £4 plus postage - a bargain ! . He is rather crudely painted in only four colours but a cute figure . I'm tempted to repaint him - and so destroying his collectability in many collectors eye's , Hmmm ! will have to think about that . Tea mug and biscuits for scale .

  1. I wouldn't reprint him, there is a certain charm about his condition, which doesn't look bad at all.

I had no idea that Manoils were going for the higher figures.

    Nice find.

    1. Yes I will leave him as he is , I'm afraid I don't know much about Manoil figures , they seem to do mainly American subjects , lots of character though.

  2. I have NO qualms about repainting my 54mms. I am not going to sell them and prefer a decent painted figure on display. But that is just me.

    1. Think it depends if you ever plan to sell them on , which I don't . Have repainted some 54mm Britains , but I had to do repairs on them.

  3. Delightful! I have no anxiety about painting old figures but he looks pretty good as he is.

  4. I collect Dime Store toy soldiers...
He’s a beauty and a bargain... if only I had seen him first. :-)

If you are thinking of him as an investment... I would leave as is...
If not... they do re paint rather well...

    All the best. Aly

    1. Think I will leave him as he is , I try to limit my collecting to WW1 pilot figures and was lucky to get him cheap .

  5. He's terrific - is the bomb on his foot? Yes, I think you should leave him as he is - I'm intrigued, wondering what he's doing. Glad to see you are still collecting 54mm digestive biscuits.

    1. His foot is just behind the bomb , will be leaving him as he is , the biscuit collection is only temporary .

  6. The Dimestores are attractive, one of the reasons that I've never bought one! (in case they spread)

Glad to hear you're going to leave him. I have no compunction about repainting battered toys or about converting them from toy to model when in that mood but sometimes there is pleasure in preserving them too.

    Good catch!

    1. I have limited myself only to World War One pilots as there aren't many of them about . I have renovated damaged hollow cast Britains in the past but will leave him as he is .
