Another postcard with some toy soldiers and a young lady (?) brandishing a sword . Obviously French by the uniform and the writing and probably from the early 20th century (?) , the figures seem quite large scale - 60mm plus ??? and the cannon is of a type I've not seen before . According to Google translate - Children's vocations, Reve (?) medals, Soldiers-Batalions, Cannon-Horse, This one will be General ! . The photographer was A. Ber?eret & co Nancy
.
Another great postcard Tony! The two mounted pieces are Bon-Dufour composition figures from France. They are about 5.5 inches high to give you an idea of scale. I don't recognize the infantry figures.
ReplyDeleteThanks , I had no idea about the figures.
DeleteI vaguely recall that in this timeframe it was fashionable to "feminize" (for lack of a better term) very young boys. Can't tell for sure, but this might be a young lad with long locks. Either way, the horse on wheels is definitely an iconic image of the era.
ReplyDeleteYes very much a period piece.
DeleteAnother charming picture form times long ago, I think Ed is right, it is possibly a young boy in the photo, but whatever it is a lovely picture.
ReplyDeleteYes you could be right young boys didn't seem to get their haircut till they got older.
Delete"Vocations of Children.
ReplyDeleteDreaming of medals,
Soldiers, battles.
Cannon, horses,
This one will be a General."
That was me!!!
(I think the young boy with curls suggestion is right but what matter?
If a girl, she might turnout to be another 'Cigarette' (see 'Under Two Flags')
Thanks for the proper translation.
