Just came across this on the Internet , very much a period piece and looks so dated now - look at the dress of the spectators . I wonder what rules they were using ? - hopefully NOT Newbury rules ! . Ah the waves of nostalgia ! (click on photo to enlarge)
Some of us maintain standards. I can assure you that nobody is allowed in to watch me wargame unless they are wearing a tie. Exceptions are obviously made for ladies in uniform.
ReplyDeleteYou set a very high standard!
DeleteThey look deeply engrossed , the chap with the pink shirt is a bit of a trend setter ! , Tony
DeleteGood magazine cover. I wonder if one could discern the rules with a close look at the gaming table?
ReplyDeleteCould be Bruce Quarrie's as it seems to be an Napoleonic game , Tony
DeleteI had not realised that other Wargamers had been raiding my wardrobe.
ReplyDeleteCan't beat a good bit of Tweed ! , Tony
DeleteBeards were big in intellectual circles in the late 1960's and early 1970's. Unfortunately I couldnt grow a proper one, so opted for big sideboards and extravagant flares.Ah, happy days in some respects.
ReplyDeleteStill Battle was a great magazine, which I still pour over.
Had sideboards but no flares and wish I had kept my Battle magazines, Tony
ReplyDeletePeople may laugh about the clothes, but that good old war gamer hair never goes out of style!
ReplyDeleteThat chap has compensated his lack of growth on top with a fine beard ! , Tony
DeleteThat was the first wargames magazine I ever bought...
ReplyDeleteOne of the best as well !, Tony
