I always use pennies to base my individual figures and when I came to base up my latest batch of figures to my horror I found I had run out ! - searched all over the house in all the nooks and crannies where I tend to store these and found only about six ! . The problem is I rarely use cash nowadays and I used to pop into the bank and get a pounds worth (100) - but my local bank has closed ! . I have had to resort to buying some 20mm MDF circles to finish the job off .
I know it’s more than a bit sad, but although I base some of my 2mm figures on 1p pieces I generally base the command figures on 5p coins. Next time you get cash make sure when you’re shopping that you pay for low value items with, say, a £1 coin and hopefully you’ll get a decent handful of change.

Yes I must make an effort to use cash more.
DeleteI have the same issue, a diminishing amount of pennies and tuppenies, so I do the coffee shop trick and pay cash notes in order to get change. Banks are a bit funny now about asking for copper change, even if you are a customer. Change (coppers) have a good heft compared to mdf pennies, and younger coins being magnetic to boot.
ReplyDeleteHaving some cash notes around is useful for (haggling at) car boot sales anyway.
Strange how our habits have changed in such a short time .
DeleteSomething I have never thought off as I always use mdf bases but yes habits have changed a fair bit over the last few years.
