My old wargaming colleague 'B' has been up visiting his relatives and brought with him his collection of 28mm German East Africa figures for a game set in 1916 (?) , we were joined by 'A' as well for a Sunday morning game .
'B' umpired as he knew the rules and I took the Germans and 'A' the British , the rules use a deck of cards which activate units and unfortunately 'A' had a run of cards which meant he could get his troops up and shooting before I could react !.
Of course par for the course I forgot to take photos as the action grew hot ! , these two units where shot to pieces shortly after this photo and as 'A' had got his units into position my force was whittled down one unit at a time and so he won the game . Once we had got our heads around the rules the game progressed quite quickly and it was nice to be gaming with these two old friend , sadly a rare occasion nowadays.
It looks like a great time was had by all, Tony! A wonderful way to spend a Sunday morning!
ReplyDeleteYes we had a great time , sadly it doesn't happen very often nowadays.
DeleteA great way to spend a morning, good friends and a wargame, hard to beat!
ReplyDeleteIt was nice to meet up again and play a game.
DeleteCan't say I'm a fan of the Lardie system(s) for the reasons you allude to (feels like you're playing an individual game against the rules system as much or more than any sort of collective experience). But if you are focused on the comradeship and not the table too much, then they're fine to get a group of old friends together (cherish the times that you can).
ReplyDeleteI find the Lardie rules hard going as they are not particularly well written and don't have good QRS , luckily 'B' knew them and it was nice to game with old pals.
