Reclaiming 'Buffalo Bill' .

The Witch's brew - I have decided to strip the entire 'Buffalo Bill' model .: Another mysterious figure .and so left him and his mount overnight in neat 'Dettol' to bring the paint off.

Getting ready to clean up the figures - rubber gloves and a [very] old toothbrush .

Cleaning off the gunk under a running tap - I didn't grow an extra arm or balance the camera in my mouth I am indebted to Mrs K for her assistance ("I hope you clean the sink out !")

The finished result , the horse has had extensive repairs to it's neck using 'Milliput' , which was a bit of a surprise , there is a lot of detail on the rider , most of which was obscured by the paint . I hope to get them undercoated and start painting them next week.

  1. It's amazing how much detail comes out when old paint is removed! Now you have a blank canvas Tony, time to work your magic!

    1. Yes I'm glad I did it now , it was an indifferent original paint job.

  3. They should paint up really well, looking forward to seeing them when done, should be well worth the effort of stripping the paint of them.

  4. Dettol stripping is my nemesis. I love the results (having stripped hundreds of old hollowcasts) but hate the smell and the dreaded black gunk that can appear, seemingly dependant on the paints used by the original owner. The detail on these old 'simple' figures is very often amazing once the paint is lifted. Enjoy the repaint!

  5. The original figure was sculpted by Roy Selwyn-Smith with detail engraved by Charlie Biggs, they went on to produce the Herald plastic range and ended up as Managing Director and Design Director respectively at Britains.
