Shamelessly appropriated off Facebook (thanks Shrewsbury Wargaming Club) , I did go and see the film in 1974 but can't remember much about it other than the Gettysburg wargame .
I FINALLY got to watch some of the episodes on youtube. Pretty racy stuff for the time, no wonder they didn't air it here afaik. and the there was the wargaming!
I was and still am a big fan of Callan... A couple of years ago I bought the entire TV collection and the film on DVD... It is still a pleasure to watch... character driven with excellent scripts and superb actors... And of course a smattering of toy soldiers...

ReplyDeleteI must admit I always preferred Callan to James Bond and just not because of the toy soldiers .
DeleteEdward Woodward was terrific but more "D's" in his name than anyone merits. Breaker Morant was epic!
ReplyDeleteCallan the TV series was a must watch in my younger days .

All the best. Aly
It was a classic without the need for high speed gimmicks
