Third world problems .

One problem I didn't foresee about the effects of the pandemic was running out of 2p's ! , we are using swipe card and chip and pin for shopping and have hardly used cash at all the last two month  and to my horror I had found I had finished the last of my hoarded coins !. I use them a lot for basing individual figures, luckily I have ordered some MDF 2p's  from off EBay - phew ! panic over !!

  1. Know the feeling of realizing that stocks of some hobby materials are dwindling. By the way, I have discovered the Pre History Guys thanks to the "What I'm Listening To" on your blog. THANK YOU!

  2. Yikes, essential basing shortage averted. I have nearly run out of pennies, but have stash of metal washes the same size, so OK for now; also a small stash of 2p's.

  3. It's over thirty years since I left the uk for NZ, so I think the coins may have "shrunk" in the meantime....in my day, the 1p coin was the same size as the NZ 10c coin, which I have used a lot for individual basing of skirmish level figures...approx 10mm diameter. The 2p coin was at least twice the size and to me, would have been too large for a single figure? When I wanted them, I just went to the bank and handed over a $10 note in exchange for 100 coins...much cheaper than 20mm washers!

    1. Think the banks are still open , but at the present time don't want to make a special trip into an otherwise closed town for a bag of 2p's .

  4. Hi Tony- I don't use MDF for basing figures- instead I use rectangles of Mat Board- a cardboard usually found in Framing Print Boarders...I bought $30 Worth thirty years ago and my supply is still going strong. I use Mat Board a lot for modelling structures- as well as MDF. Cheers. KEV.

  5. Apart from banks, where you almost felt you needed to give an explanation for this queueing up for a random request to deface their coinage (How many children's financial literacy projects or shovehapenny world tournaments could one man possibly organise?!), I found amusement arcade change machines were a discreet source of 2ps. You did get some funny looks when you bagged or pocketed several pounds worth and left.
