Russian Hussars.

Have got some opposition for the Highlanders done in the shape of  the 12th Ingermanland Laandski Hussars. One of the regiments making up the 6th Light Cavalry Division

They are a bit too animated for my liking , but accurately portrayed in greatcoats and waterproof shako covers , with the officer and trumpeter in full dress . The blue facing cover is maybe a bit brighter than it should be .

There is even a horse leaping over a shell explosion ! . The Russian cavalry regiments were large (over a 1,000 men) and the above unit would be a squadron . So I will be painting up another unit in the same uniform to bring them up to strength  .

  1. What is it with modern producers and cavalry flspping their arms around? At least the old Airfix riders were holding their reins where they could control their horses.

Apart from that, looking good. Hopefully ere long we will get a chance to see if they "know their business".

    1. Yes don't like the arms all over the place, the next batch i will cut and pin the arms to more practical poses, Tony

  2. Great work. I prefer my troops to be all in the same position, but having said that, I rather like the leaping horse and explosion.

  5. if I may. Years ago a wargamer asked Airfix if they would make their figures in positions that would at least fit easily together on bases without the worst theatrical poses. Their reply was that they understood the needs of wargamers, but that their market was many thousands of small boys who liked the active positions. If you want a wargames figure then don't Tumbling Dice make one?

    1. Yes Strelets say on their forum that the figures are aimed at modelers . Tumbling Dice do Crimean figures but I haven't seen the cavalry - Their infantry are all in greatcoat and use different heads . My idea for this project was to use plastic figures as much as possible although I may have to resort to Douglas Miniatures for British RHA , Tony
