For a postcard produced shortly after the Great War I find the sentiment, fond memories of childhood playing war being later lived out in a trench, astonishing. I would've thought any idea of the next generation also having to grow up and experience the same would've been considered unacceptable.
Well, my maternal grandfather, a veteran of WW1 kept his pre Boer War toy soldiers and used to tell me about WW1 battles, from a historians view not personal. Tried to sign up for WWII but had to settle for a job as Commisionaire at an arm's depot.
Another great postcard Tony! I look at it as a son thinking about his father who is off defending his country and family. It seems rather poignant to me, and something that a child would very likely do as they played with their toy soldiers!
