Saw these 10 Johillco British hollow cast infantry on eBay , so I bid for them and nobody else was interested ! so I got them for under £10 including postage - very pleased with myself ! . Interesting paint job (second class ?) only 4 colours - red , blue , black and flesh . I do like the red - sorta orangey tint to it which I find hard to replicate so may try and leave it and touch up the rest and add details . Now all I need is another 2 to make a unit up ! .
Excellent buy Tony, what a steal! Great find!!
ReplyDeleteSometimes you get lucky !
DeleteI have been collecting the Johilco and Brittains versions and done REALLY well of late. I now have 66 undercoated and repaired figs awaiting their final uniforms.
ReplyDeleteThere is still the odd bargain about !
DeleteA very nice find indeed, cracking addition to your collection.
ReplyDeleteYes rather pleased with them .
DeleteSurprised at your bargain price - 10GBP including Postage- well done there Tony- the British figures look very nice indeed. Cheers. KEV.
ReplyDeleteYes it was a bit of a shock - luckily nobody else bid !
DeleteI found one of the Humbrol semi-mat reds to be a good match.
ReplyDeleteSadly I only use acrylics nowadays with a high gloss varnish .
DeleteThats a very fair price! I assume you've tried an acrylic scarlet, with perhaps a touch of red added. But have a care, a coat of varnish sometimes redefines what appeared a perfect match. Been caught out a few times!

Yes the coat of varnish can alter shades .
DeleteI cannot remember the name for sure (and it has probably been changed now anyway) but Games Workshop did an orangey red used for highlighting their Blood Angels Space Marines.
ReplyDeleteLovely little find however!
Thanks I'll have a look at their paint chart when I'm next in the shop .
