I noticed these on eBay , they were Zinnbrigade homecasts I already have some which I painted up last year (.: Almannia Expeditionary Force (AEF) on parade. (tonystoysoldiers.blogspot.com) and wasn't sure I really needed more (of course I did) I placed a bid and rather forgot about it determinned not to get into bidding war for them . Interestingly they were the only toy soldiers the seller had the rest being clothes, trainers and assorted junk - very odd !. And I won them ! with postage less than a pound a figure
There are 53 of them which will make 3 units of 12 for AGM rules plus Officers and a Standard bearer and this rather smashing Band ! . They are not badly painted in a Toy Soldier style but need a few touch ups and basing and then a coat of gloss varnish which I hope to get done this week and then hopefully onto the tabletop .
What a bargain! Almost a complete army in one go!
ReplyDeleteBands are great for morale and having one on the battlefield might be a bonus for morale tests. Interestingly, the Prussians had a band playing in the trenches at the Battle of DyBol during the Schleswig-Holstein War. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Dybb%C3%B8l)
All the best,
Bob
Thinking plus 1 on the dice when marching within 12" of the band .
DeleteAnother wonderful find Tony! You can never have too many toy soldiers! (Don't let my wife hear that, I would be in big trouble!)
ReplyDeleteI wasn't going to get into a bidding war , but they kinda inherited me !
DeleteGreat Figures Tony- being fully in the round they are terrific 54s.
ReplyDeleteJust need a bit of a touch up ,basing and a varnish then good to go !
DeleteWow that’s an amazing buy, they look wonderful. The paint job is nice with some small touch ups and light green bases they will look first class for sure. Well done! Quinn
ReplyDeleteI was lucky nobody else was interested, just need a bit of paint in places.
DeleteIt looks like they were ‘meant’ for you (that’s a good one to tell yourself) and who doesn’t love a marching band?
ReplyDeleteYes the band was a plus .
DeleteNice.
ReplyDeleteI have all of the moulds for that 40mm range, but never seem to get around to casting and painting from them - maybe????
They are nice simple moulds , very toy soldier.
DeleteSuper ebay win, they look great and once varnished will look cracking when they hit the table.
ReplyDeleteYes sometimes you get lucky and a coat of varnish will help.
DeleteBy Grabthar's Hammer, what a savings!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like the AEF is going to take over the World!
These recruits double their forces.
DeleteAn ebay score like that...must be all that clean living and good karma coming through!
ReplyDeleteAnd a bit of luck spotting them and nobody else interested!
DeleteAn excellent band boost rule and a very attractive group of shiny toy soldiers. Do the band double up as medics and stretcher bearers? Or Wellsian anybody can be artillery crew?
ReplyDeleteUnder HG I think anyone can man artillery , I've got them based and ready for a gloss varnish.
