The Walkers are on holiday in Anglesey, here they are at Malltreath Bay and in the distance are the Snowdonia mountains
Mr Walker is keen to visit the prehistoric chambered cairn of Bryn Celli Dbu,
.
"This is an excellent chambered cairn , probably the finest on Anglesey" ! comments Mr Walker .
"Let's take a look inside" , "yes dear(if we must)".
"Magnificent and very unusual "
The interior looking towards the entrance.
What little is known of the site. Mr Walker is enthusiastic about prehistoric monuments , Mrs Walker less so .
A very cool prehistoric site, Mr Walker! I have a vague recollection of visiting something similar as a child, up around Elgin or Nairn in NE Scotland...and I also went to Jarlshof on Shetland when I was in my early twenties.
ReplyDeleteI do like a Prehistoric site .
DeleteThis is brilliant stuff. I hope nothing awful is going to happen to them in there...
ReplyDeleteYes they have had 'unfortunate' holidays abroad before - that is why they are sticking nearer to home this time .
DeleteA few pictures, but they leave a deep impression. We're there really no other people about at the cairn? If so, that must have added to the sense of the place.
ReplyDeleteNo there was nobody else there , very impressed .
DeleteVery interesting indeed Tony! I have never seen a cairn before, thank you for the wonderful pictures! I do love it when the Walkers are on holiday!
ReplyDeleteYes it's remembering to take photos of them . I have heard of this cairn and have always wanted to visit it .
DeleteNice to see the Walkers are enjoying their holiday. I went to Anglesey a lot as a child, but never visited this burial mound.
ReplyDeleteThere is a lot of prehistory on Anglesey .
DeleteGreat post. Wouldn't have been surprised to see a couple of members of Time Team doing a preliminary survey. ....or a couple of ghosts!
ReplyDeleteLoved thise raised woodwn walkways too!
The site has been dug I think in the 1920's and repaired/renonavated about 20 years ago , yes the Walkers found those walkways very handy to acess the site .
