Still beavering away painting 1859 Austrians for my Second Italian Wars of Independence . These are Austrian Hussars from the 12th Regt. Heller . They probably should have a black waterproof cover but that would mean you wouldn't see the white shako.
They count as a 'small' unit under Black Powder , I'm not painting a lot of cavalry for my various armies as not many seemed to be used in the smaller actions in Italy that I'm playing .
Very smart and quite right to leave off the waterproof covering!
ReplyDeleteYou have to go with pretty !
DeleteLight Blue and gold lace just doesn't go with waterproof hat covers! Gallant looking lads.
DeleteYes I always try to keep it colourful
DeletePainted the very same figures (as a different unit), so I can appreciate the excellent results you've attained-- well done! If I'm not mistaken, the shako covers for the Austrian hussars in this period were colored to match the shakos, so you're on solid ground either way.
ReplyDeleteThat's good to know !
DeleteSplendid hussars!
ReplyDeleteAs Ed, above, I too have fielded this colorful unit. The medium blue, white shako, and yellow lace is a striking combo. The Austrians knew how to dress.
One of my favourite armies
DeleteExcellent work....Irregular miniatures turn out well under your brush.
ReplyDeleteYes they paint up well
DeleteGorgeous! I don't know you manage to turn them out so quickly, Tony, but the results are absolutely splendid,
ReplyDeleteRetirement helps and I'm trying to concentrate on one project at a time - I can be a bit of a painting butterfly
DeleteSplendid unit, nice to see the white shakos
ReplyDeleteThe Austrians must be one of the most colourful armies out there
