Well after the disaster of deleting the photos for the second part of my last battle using AGW , I set it up again and had another go . I decided on a pitch battle , the initial forces were placed on their table edges using a dice throe - 1= left flank , 2 = left centre , 3 = centre , 4 = right centre , 5 = right flank , 6 = your choice. Both forces had 4 infantry units , a cavalry unit and a gun .
The Treborian force had a run of cards and pushed their cavalry forward onto the ridge , the old pennies denote that the unit has moved .
The Ferraro Rocherian General and staff didn't get any 'hold cards' so couldn't interrupt the flow of the game .
The Treborians drew an ace card which meant they could move a unit that had already moved once again , so they charge the Ferraro Rocherian cavalry and drove them back .
The FR manage to get their gun moved up and deployed ready to fire on the enemy cavalry which had rallied back to the ridge.
On the other flank the Treborians use a picture card to move a group of two infantry units forward .
Having activated all their units, the Treborian counters and disorder counters were removed and activation can start again as cards are drawn . The Treborian cavalry charge the already activated and disordered FR cavalry which had not been able to rally due to the flow of activation cards - this was VERY bad for them , the FR General joins the unit to try and help them in the melee . The old pre-decimal penny is to show a unit has been activated , the Victorian postage stamp is a disordered marker (not a real one ! a photocopied one stuck to a MDF base)
It is a disaster for the Ferraro Rocherians ! the unit is wiped out and the General killed ! . The game is going well and I'm getting my head around the rules , the 'hold' cards are very useful to interrupt the flow of cards and add extra movement to charges - but have to be played at the crucial point as they can be scarce . I will post the second part of the battle shortly …..
A most un-usual type of card-order movement set of rules..though from your report Tony it all seems to be working smoothly with good results for you...do like the old penny and postage stamp in use- certainly adds to the 'Old School' look of play for the 40mm. Regards. KEV.
