Now I've decided on using 'Pike and Shotte' as my rule set, I needed to get some General figures done . Here is the commander of the Catholic League Army Count von Tilly .
The standard bearer is a converted artilleryman and the drummer pinched from an infantry box of figures . The standard is a vaguely Habsburg one as there is not a lot about flags in the early period of the 30 Years War.
The opposing Bohemian commander Prince Christian of Anhalt . Once again the standard bearer is a converted artilleryman and the drummer was a French dragoon originally .
The flag is an odd one off the Internet - there's even less info about the Protestant flags than the Imperial ones . The wet weather this Easter is preventing any gardening projects so I'm maxing out painting and basing to get enough figures done for a small trial game next week with 'A' .
Cracking stuff...they really look good. There are 4 new volumes out about TYW flags, available from Partizan Press. Downside is they are £35 each, but I may be tempted. Back in the early 90's there was a series of articles in WI by Mark Allen about the TYW with a few pages of nicely drawn flags if I remember correctly.
ReplyDeleteYes I saw the Partizan books - ouch ! the price - if I win the lottery ! , there's a lot about the Swedish armies and the Imperials but the earlier war is badly served , Tony
DeleteGreat figures!
ReplyDeleteThey paint up nicely , Tony
DeleteGreat work, Tony!
ReplyDeleteUnder pressure now getting ready for the game next week - if it continues to rain I can paint uninterrupted , Tony
DeleteTony remind me how you prepare your plastic figures for painting and do you use acrylics? Do you yacht varnish afterwards?
ReplyDeleteThanks
Alan
I do soak them in washing up liquid and water overnight , I give them a matt black spray coat then paint them with acrylics , I give them 2 coats of yacht varnish to finish to prevent paint chipping , Tony
DeleteExcellent cameo Command stands Tony - well done! Your efforts make me want to go and buy some Plastics...I'm fighting the temptation. KEV.
ReplyDeletePerhaps not as easy to paint as metal figures, but a lot cheaper, Tony
DeleteExcellent stuff, do you think I could get away with painting up "A Call to Arms" 54mm ECW figures as TYW? and do you add flock to the bases after you've varnished them?
ReplyDeleteI would think the ECW figure would pass as a TYW figure , I glue the figures to the base after painting - then give them a couple of coats of varnish and when dry go over the base with 'Basetex' when that is dry I dry-brush it with a lighter highlight and add patches of static grass, Tony
ReplyDeleteFantastic stuff. Well done Tony.
ReplyDeleteThey are painting up quicker and easier than I first thought , Tony
DeleteNicely done
ReplyDeleteThink the two gloss coats help to seal the paint onto the figures , Tony
