One of the bi-products of my cleaning has been the finding of several Prince August 25mm moulds.
Also a prodigious amount of spare tin, either old sample figures, failed projects or figures gifted to me by my wargaming colleagues .
Put the two together and you get (yet) another wargaming project. The problem is you only need the advancing figure in the middle of the mould which has taken a bit of practise to get to work - note the extra vents cut in this mould to get it to cast correctly.
The God*of casting can be fickle, here we have a load of miss-casts which had to be melted down again. .Sometimes you have a good session casting other times not !
The end result , a Battalion of French Napoleonic Infantry .
A better photo. I'm not sure where this project is going but the figures will be from the Prince August moulds , a rather strange range from the Waterloo era but with quite a few missing figures - ie no Prussian Cavalry etc. , so there will have to be some conversions done . I'm looking forward to this project - I have the moulds (just noticed Prince August are doing a 3 for the price of 2 sale at the moment) , I have the tin and I like homecasting ! , so we will see where it goes !
*PS Prometheus maybe ?

They all look great Tony! The gloss paint is excellent, even at this smaller scale! I look forward to your next post about this project!
ReplyDeleteI'm really enjoying castings these up , but the moulds are tricky and quite a number of miscasts.
DeleteLovely to see some of the Napoleonic PA figures, I have a load of the bigger SYW, retirement project, but none of the 25mm ones, I think it is the missing figures that have put me off, cracking job on them, they look great in their shiny coats in the sun.
ReplyDeleteIt must be 40 years ago since this range first came out and compared to modern figures are quite crude , but they have a charm all of their own.
DeleteAt least 45 years ago, At least, that when I first encountered Prince August and that 25mm Waterloo range. (Not that it was me that was the one casting back then.)
DeleteThought it must be that long ago , I like there O.S. quaintness.
DeleteWe had joy , we had fun , we had toy soldiers in the sun but the joy didn’t last cause the rain arrived too fast.
ReplyDeleteYes and it rained overnight
ReplyDeleteOne of the unintended byproducts of a clear out: the discovery of something else to accumulate--let's call it inspiration :)
ReplyDeleteI like to think of it as recycling
